Class Of 2026

The Gold Whistle is the most prestigious award presented by the KBOA. What makes it truly special is that it is voted on by the membership, recognizing the official who best exemplifies the ideals and standards of the Kentuckiana Basketball Officials Association.

This honor has been awarded annually since its creation in 1978, established in recognition of Ed Taylor and his enormous contributions to the game of basketball and to the growth of officiating in our community. Ed’s officiating career spanned an extraordinary 35 years, from 1941 through the 1975 season. He represented our organization at two KHSAA Boys State Tournaments—1974, when Louisville Central won the championship, and 1975, when Darrell Griffith led Louisville Male to the state title.

As you hear the names of the past recipients of the Gold Whistle, remember that each one was selected by their fellow officials because they embody the image, integrity, and dedication that Ed Taylor himself brought to the profession. His example helped build the foundation of the KBOA, and the Gold Whistle continues to honor those who carry that legacy forward.
