Pete Mattingly

Class Of 2026

The KBOA President’s Award is presented annually to the individual who best exemplifies the qualities our members strive to uphold—an honor given in memory of Pete Mattingly. Pete was a cherished friend to the KBOA, and though his service as Assigning Secretary for the Sixth and Seventh Regions was tragically cut short by his passing in February 1986, his impact on our association endures.

Coming from an officiating background in baseball and softball, Pete embraced the challenge of mastering basketball from the unique perspective of an Assigning Secretary. He quickly became known as honest, hard-working, and firm, earning the deep respect of officials throughout the region.

Pete’s evaluations of KBOA officials reflected the standards he held for himself— promptness, reliability, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the association. He believed that active participation in KBOA events and activities was a true measure of an official’s commitment to the game.

The President’s Award carries his legacy forward, recognizing individuals who demonstrate the same integrity, work ethic, and devotion that Pete embodied throughout his career.
